GOODNIGHT JOHN-BOY

I grew up watching that sitcom. I was always intrigued by the two old bitties who were the only ones in the town that had any money, and were always inviting everyone (even the kids) in for some "Cordial"
here is a Cranberry version just in time for the Holidays.
CRANBERRY CORDIAL
this sweet berry-infused liqueur makes a lovely variation on a kir-royale when mixed with Champagne or sparkling wine. I like to pour it into pretty bottles and give them as holiday gifts.

6 cups of inexpensive medium-bodied red wine (such as Merlot or Sherry)
5 cups granulated sugar
1 bag fresh cranberries
3 cups brandy
In a large nonreactive pot, bring wine, sugar and cranberries to a simmer.Cook until cranberries pop their skins. Cool mixture to room temperature, then refrigerate 2 to 4 days to steep berries. Strian mixture through a fine-mesh sieve; stir in brandy and transfer to glass bottles. Cordial will keep for up to 6 months
Yields: 3 quarts

I think this should be on our Thanksgiving Menu! And...we can be the two old bitties! Funny sister.

This is definitely a recipe for drinking with a good friend and watching an old favourite TV show :)
