THE PILGRIMS WERE A BUNCH OF HIPPIES!

I am reading my grand daughter a book about the "pilgrims" voyage to the "New World" and am learning it is so much more, than just about Thanksgiving. These people were desperate for change. I told my grand dtr that it would be like us saying we got to get off Earth and renting a space ship to go to Mars!
The one child born on the Mayflower during the trip was named "Oceanus" which is a genuine Hippie name! I should know. I was 15 years old when Woodstock happened and a bonafide Hippie! There are as many kinds of punch as there are ornaments on the tree or hosts in the kitchen. There are punches as traditional as the Old English wassail and punches so new they haven't been born yet. Give a man a bowl and some bottles , and a houseful of guests and who knows what ambrosial concoction will result?
But that brings up a very important question. What is a punch? Is it just a slapdash ad lib mixture of anything you have in the house or are there rules in making a punch? Well the word punch comes from the Persian "punj" or from the Hindu "panch" Both words mean "five" and punches as a rule were made of five parts: water, wine, sugar, lemon and spirits. Today, there is practically no limits to the variety of flavor effects you can produce with fruits, fruit juices, wine, spirits, cordials and spices. There are some basic rules you must follow to be successful in this endeavor. They are simple, but none-the less necessary:

The 1-2 Punch

Basic Boxing Combination: the mighty 1-2

one of the most important and famous of all combinations!!

In this combination, you throw a jab which closes the distance and sets up the head for the power punch of the straight right delivered immediately after. the objective of the jab is to snap your opponents head back with your jab which exposes his chin. You then nail him with a right sending him to the mat. Throughout the whole sequence you should feel firm on your feet, never off balance. If you do you are doing something wrong. Its either you are reaching for the opponent or not recovering completely from your punch.
